Helen J. Cronau, age 98, formally of New Washington, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Home in Port Clinton, Ohio. She was born on May 25, 1927 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Walter and Anna (Price) Sheley. Helen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, shelling and helping at the clothing store.

She is survived by her children; Jeanette (John) Winsor, Jefferson (Holly Reidel) Cronau, Jacqueline Cronau and John R. (Julie Rannells) Cronau; grandchildren, Jeanette H. Winsor, Justin (Rachel) Cronau, Jessica (Jonathan) Reece, James (Victoria) Cronau and Elizabeth (Austin) Langston; 2 great grandchildren, Larai Pascimi Taro and Ourobouros Pneuma Ereuneteza sister, Rosemary Wisecup of Hamilton, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Cronau who passed away February 13, 2005; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ida and Justice Cronau; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John J. and Martha Cronau and brother-in-law, Ralph Wisecup.

Calling hours will be on Monday, April 27, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church in New Washington, Ohio from 10:00 AM until the time of Helen's funeral service at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in New Washington, Ohio Pastor Kevin Mohr officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in New Washington, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John Lutheran Church in New Washington. My memories include: Gardening, sewing, canning, reading, being a good mother, wife and neighbor. I recall dropping by unannounced when Helen was busily crocking cabbage…she never had idle hands…I never heard her complain or gossip. She was a Christian example for me.
