Adeline Joanna “Granny Jo” Handshoe, age 79, resident of Shelby, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. She was born on June 28, 1938 in Willard, Ohio to the later Paul W. and Anna (Finn) Newland, Sr. Joanne worked as a Truck Driver for Dutch Maid for 20 years with her husband, Floyd. After retirement, Joanne enjoyed following the rodeo circuit out west and was known as the “Traveling Granny”.
She is survived by her 5 children, Chris (Bernie) Enevoldsen of Augusta, Georgia, Cathy Whittington of Shiloh, Ohio, Mike (Alice) Whittington of Plymouth, Ohio, Larry (April Williams) Whittington of New Washington, Ohio, Scott Whittington of Shiloh, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bill Newland, Jack Newland; a sister, Martha Newland; and her beloved dogs, Rudy and BB.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Jr.” Handshoe; and an infant daughter, Linda Whittington.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven with Pastor Merlin Dye officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Huron County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com
