Alma Regina Long, age 92, longtime resident of New Washington, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at The Willows in Willard, surrounded by her husband and family. She was born on November 5, 1925, in New Washington, Ohio, to the late Aloysius "Ollie" W. and Bertha P. (Wurm) Bechtel. Alma was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington and the Rosary Altar Society. She was an avid quilter, cake decorator and sugar cookie maker. Alma enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and the Cavaliers.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Long, whom she married on June 25, 1949; 5 children, James (Dolores) Long of Miller City, Ohio, Linda (Robert) Yutzy of Dysartsville, North Carolina, Patricia (Jeffrey) Spiess of Bay Village, Ohio, Thomas (Kim) Long of Wooster, Ohio, Michael (Andrea) Long of Chatfield, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 27 great - grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen Studer of Bucyrus, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Harold, John, Paul, and Gerald Bechtel; and 3 sisters, Marie Supon, Frances (Sr. Eileen), and Helen (Sr. Gregory).

Visitation will be Friday, April 20, 2018, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, where the Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM with Father George Mahas officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in New Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, 257 Benedict Ave. Suite B, Norwalk, Ohio 44857 or Buckeye Central Music Boosters, c/o Karla Niese, 9385 S. Dear Ray and family, you have my deepest sympathies. Alma was like a second mom to me. I have so many wonderful memories of the friendship between our families. I remember Alma as a genuinely sweet lady and a wonderful mother. I still have the baby quilt and pillows she made for me. I will hold you all in my prayers.
