Alton “Clem” Studer, age 84, of rural New Washington, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Willard Mercy Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on February 18, 1933 in Chatfield, Ohio to the late Donatus E. and Esther E. (Alt) Studer. Clem served in the U.S. Army and was an Honor Guard with the Bucyrus American Legion, where he enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, retired from Timken and had worked for Columbus Grain. He also enjoyed playing cards at Cranberry Hills, farming, gardening and loved making wine. He also enjoyed time traveling with Marcia, enjoyed watching Cleveland and OSU sports and loved watching his grandchildren play school sports.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia (Zucker) Studer, whom he married on July 6, 1957; children, Theresa Sparks of Bucyrus; Roxanne (Randy) Hiler of New Washington; Mike (Cathy) Studer of Lewis Center; grandchildren, Dustin and Carrissa Studer of Columbus; Quinton, Zach, Isaac and Jacob Hiler of New Washington; brother, Dutch (Phyllis) Studer and sisters-in-laws, Eileen Studer of Bucyrus, Rita Studer of Mansfield and Dorothy Brause.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Florence Cook; brothers, Edward, William, Paul, Pete and infant brother, Frances; and a brother-in-law Eugene Zucker
Visitation will be at St. Bernard Catholic Church on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 9:30 – 11:30 AM, where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM with Fr. Mike Diemer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Lowe-Volk Park, the Crawford County Humane Society or to St. Bernard Catholic Church.
