Arthur Wayne Heck, age 86, of Delton,Michigan and a former resident of Willard, passed away January 5, 2005 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Mr. Heck was born November 5, 1918 in Bucyrus, Ohio, the son of Howard and Hazel (Conrod) Heck. A resident of Delton area since 1989, Mr. Heck was the owner of Heck Flying Service, a crop dusting business. An Eagle Scout, he was involved in football during High School. A World War II veteran of the navy, he was also a 32nd degree Mason, a former Willard City Councilman, and involved with the Moose and Lions Clubs. He enjoyed flying airplanes and helicopters and was instrumental in starting a youth flying group that would give children free flying lessons. An avid reader: he would read five books a week; he also enjoyed deep sea fishing, antelope hunting, motorcycles and wintering in the Bahamas.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, whom he married on May 13, 1978, a daughter, Trisha (Paul) Aichholz of Illinois, a granddaughter, Melissa (Ed) Hansen of Virginia, three grandsons, Tim Aichholz of Alaska, Ryan (Melinda) Aichholz of Illinois and Drew Aichholz; two great grandchildren, Jenelle and Helen Ruth Hansen; two step sons, Michael (Sherry) Callen and Terry (Penny) Callen; four step grandchildren, Dan, Joe, Colleen, and Sarah Callen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Merribel in 1976, a son, Arthur Heck Jr. in 1970, a granddaughter, Alane Aichholz on October 27, 2003 and a sister, Vivian.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM where a Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 AM at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard with Rev. Ken Gifford officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio.
