Carolyn Kelly - Mar 17, 2009

Dear Kathy, Kenny, Richard, Chris,
It was good to see you all on Sunday. Your mom was very generous and encouraging to me. When I started at Freiberger library Betty trained me. It was the first full time job I had following my late husband’s death and I still had daughters in school.
Week-ends we spent with Betty at Kelley’s Island were so relaxing and special to me.
Hope you will continue to recall your wonderful mother!
With my deepest sympathy to you all.
Carolyn Kelly

Saying goodbye is not easy, and this is one woman who will be so missed by so many. To know Betty was to love her – and everyone she met she touched in a positive way. We should not grieve her passing – her peace – but it’s just our nature to do that. Instead – we should keep in our hearts what Betty stood for – and that was joy. Pure, unadulterated joy. What an inspiration this woman has been to so many. She welcomed all with open arms and a wonderful sense of humor and we are all blessed that she touched our lives. She taught us well – and it’s up to us to remember her lessons!

To the family of Betty. I’m truly sorry to learn of Bettys passing. I will certainly miss her going by on the Blue golf cart on Kelleys. Betty was a fun loving person and will greatly be missed by all. Your in my prayers and thoughts.

Arlene Sievers-Hill - Mar 14, 2009

I worked with Betty for seven years at Freiberger Library at CWRU. I have missed her ever since she retired, missed her for her genuine happiness, and infectious spirit of fun, and the good feeling she spread to anyone who was around her.
One particular memory – Carolyn Kelly, the third of the three woman acquisitions department we formed, would sit with Betty after Easter when she would bring in pickled eggs. We all three loved them. No one else did. And we would sit there, and just enjoy that old fashioned Easter tradition.
My sympathy goes out to her many family members and friends. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. But I will also be thinking about the good times with Betty.

To Betty’s Family – We were very saddened to learn of Betty’s passing. She fought a long hard battle with cancer. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed by all. We always enjoyed her company and she was especially close to Sandy and her family. She has been almost a second Mom to Sandy and Heather and Brooklyn loved her, too – John, of course, too. Kelleys Island won’t be the same without her! Love to you all and our deepest sympathy to you. We are sorry that we cannot be there for the funeral or visitation as we are in Florida visiting our son but our thoughts and prayers will be with you. Love, Carolyn and Gary Spayd

Richard. I am so sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. As you know, I lost my Dad recently, so I think I have some small understanding about the loss you must be feeling. Mary Ellen’s mom recently shared some great stories about your Mom and she sounded like a person who had a great sense of humor and enriched the lives of those around her. Although I did not know her, I know the great son that she produced, and that tells me volumes about the fantastic person she must have been. Although the loss is painful, take comfort in the person that she was, and the love that she shared.
Love,
Mary Ellen, Pat and Scott
