Carl E. Kooken of Willard, age 79, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at his home. He was born on October 3, 1930 in Shelby, OH. to the late Ford and Loedetta (Evans) Kooken. Carl retired from the CSX Railroad where he worked as a carman. He enjoyed working in the yard, cars, and trains. He was a member of the Car Coddlers Club and the Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Dalton) Kooken whom he wed on October 2, 1948; three children, Linda (Ike) Shinneman of Simpsonville, SC, Carl (Michelle) Kooken Jr. of Willard, OH. and Scott (Valorie) Kooken of Willard; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Larry (Phyllis) Kooken of Decatur, GA. and Gary (Lynette) Kooken of Social Circle, GA; five sisters, Jeri (Gaylord) Cleveland of Covington, GA, Renee (Danny) Vincent of Fair Play, SC, Neaka Kooken of Norwalk, OH, Karen (Bill) Floyd of Cedar Bluff, Alabama and Carla (Jim) Franczak of Willard, OH and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carol Ann Kooken; step-mother, Kate Kooken; two brothers, Ray and Art Kooken and one sister, Pat Howell.
Friends may call on the Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 1-3PM. followed by a memorial service at 6PM with Pastor Don Gallion officiating. a graveside service will be held at a later date.
