Charles R. Philbrick, age 90, of New Washington, Ohio passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 7, 1931 in Garrett, Indiana to the late Forest and Florence (Lowe) Philbrick.

Following his high school graduation, Chuck went on to join the United States Army and served during the Korean War. His military commitment continued following his active-duty service as he was a lifetime member of local New Washington American Legion Post 405 where he was a Past Commander and was in charge of the Color Guard. His military time also brought out his passion to serve the New Washington community in the capacity of an Auxiliary Police Officer and a volunteer Firefighter.

A generous, kind, loving man, Chuck, also known as a “Mr. Defense”, was an avid supporter of the Buckeye Central School system. It did not matter if it was a sporting or musical event, he loved to encourage the kids to give it their all. He never met a stranger and saw the good in everyone.

A man of faith, he was a longtime member of the New Washington United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping, bowling, and dart ball and was an animal lover, especially of horses and dogs.

Chuck was very much a family man and is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Lou (Peck) Philbrick; 4 children, Vickie (Dean) Proudfoot, Robert (Cindy) Philbrick, Donald (Robin) Philbrick and David Philbrick (Leah Jaynes); 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was proceeded in death by his brother, Harold Philbrick.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, February 25, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 203 E Mansfield St., New Washington, Ohio from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The American Legion will be having a military ceremony at the conclusion of the visitation. It was sad reading the New Washington Herald today and learning of Charlie's passing. I'm sure that he had quite the procession of respect and tales through the hours that passed and wished that we could've been there to partake also. Our condolences to all of you. His legacy is one of a kind. May you find peace and comfort through the days ahead as he lives on in your memory. Prayers to all of you.

My condolences to the entire Philbrick family. As a kid, I remember Charlie hustling around the bases playing softball behind St. Bernard Church and always having the best Christmas light display on Jeffrey Drive. May he rest in peace.

So Sorry for Your Loss. Charlie was a Wonderful Man. Always loved talking to him when he came to Cranberry Hills.
Linda (Long) Yutzy - Feb 27, 2022
I remember Chuck as a kind and helpful neighbor. Jeffrey Drive was a haven for the numerous children whose families lived there back in the 60's. I am lucky to have been one of those kids--along with the Philbrick kids. Along with the other parents, Chuck and Mary Lou kept a watch out as we rode bikes, roller skated, played ball, and met at the Green Circle! My condolences to Mary Lou and the family. May Chuck rest in peace.

Mary Lou and family, so sad to see this news. Chuck was a “fixture” in our little Methodist Church and at all the BC sporting events. He’s one of those people who was always happy to see you and he always greeted me with joy and a hug. He was so proud to take care of the huge flag in the gym and did an expert job. True love of God and country. Big hugs to all, especially Mary Lou. He was so very proud of his bride who sings like a bird. Rest In Peace Charlie.
