Deborah Sue “Debbie” Smith, age 47, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness. She was born on Janurary 13, 1960 to Woodrow and Ruth (Moore) Smith and had been a life long Plymouth resident recently residing at Cherry Hill Group Home. She had worked at the Richland Newhope Industries for nearly 30 years, and was a graduate of the Richland Newhope School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. She was a medal winner for the Richland County Special Olympics.
“Turkey” Debbie loved her family, Lake Erie, music and dancing, coloring, playing games and chocolate. She had a nickname for everyone, and could easliy make a stranger a friend.
She is survived by her father, Woodrow “Woody” Smith; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Francine Smith; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Douglas Dickson all of Plymouth; 4 nieces, Stephanie (Jeff) Herron of Columbus; Jenny (Tim) Howard of Medina; Kathy Dickson of Bluffton; and Cortney (Jeremy) Dalton of Columbus; an uncle, aunts and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Smith; and a niece, Lynn Smith.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth on Friday, April 13, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth with Reverend Leonard Shatkus officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth. Memorial contributions can be made to the church or the Richland County Special Olymipcs.
