Dennis Eugene Giles Sr., age 65, of Willard passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at his home surrounded by family, after battling a lengthy illness. He was born on March 26, 1950 in Willard, Ohio, son of the late Virgil Jr. and Lola (Power) Giles. Dennis graduated in 1969 from South Central in Greenwich, where he was active in FFA, track and field, and football. He played varsity football his four years of high school and earned the title of “All Ohio Tackle” his senior year. He then went onto play semi-professional football for the Lucas Travelers, in Mansfield. Dennis enjoyed being a 4-H member in his youth, and then as well with his children and grandchildren. He was employed as a metal finisher at Sheller Globe/Mayflower for 37 years. Dennis was an avid history buff, loved football, and enjoyed attending auctions. He was known for his great sense of humor, his love/respect for animals, and making people feel special. Dennis will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by the love of his life, Patricia (Hicks) Giles, whom he married on December 16, 1972 and their four children, Lisa Deel of Willard, Virgil (Janelle) Giles IV of Monroeville, Dennis (Teresa) Giles Jr. of Monroeville, and Sarah (Jon) Keefer of Tiro; seven grandchildren, Kyle Vanderpool, Jada and Ava Deel, Walker and Lauren Giles, Mason and Ashlyn Giles; step-granddaughter, Sidney Keefer; and sister, Beverly (Michael) Kahler of Attica.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Virgil Giles, III in 1970; his sister, Janelle (Giles) Knapp in 1985; and his parents, Virgil Giles, Jr. in 1990 and Lola (Power) Giles in 2011.
Friends may call at Secor Funeral Home at 202 W. Maple St., Willard on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM and on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Secor Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert (Doc) and Pastor Sheila Burrows officiating. Burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery in Steuben. Memorial contributions can be made to the family. Online condolences may be expressed and shared with the family at secorfuneralhomes.com
