Dorothy J. Arnett, age 90, passed away Saturday morning January 10, 2015 at Hillside Acres in Willard, Ohio. Dorothy was born in Perry County, Happy, Kentucky on June 20, 1924 to Pearl (Lykins) and Fred Dalton. She lived most of her life in the Willard area. On May 20, 1943 she graduated from New Haven High School and went on to work at the Shelby Depot during World War II, and later on at the Willard IGA. She was a longtime member of the Willard Church of the Nazarene. She was a homemaker for most of her life and family was her greatest focus with her two grandchildren being the joy of her life. She also enjoyed getting together with friends for a spirited game of euchre.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Thomas (Polly) Moore, two grandchildren, Janet (Thomas) Melfo of Powell, Ohio and Bradley (Erin) Moore of Malvern, Pennsylvania, and five great grandchildren, Davis, Lydia and Gordon Moore and Samuel and Sophia Melfo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Arnett, and four siblings, Fred Dalton Jr., Virginia (Midge) Girscis,Richard Dalton and Linda Eshenbrenner. Glenn Dalton of O’Fallon, Illinois survives.
Services will be held at Secor Funeral Home on Friday, January 16, 2015. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a service to follow with Rev. Doc Burrows officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
