Dorothy Elizabeth Drury, 89, of Stuart, Florida, passed away on January 12, 2007, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born in Pandora, Ohio, grew up in Willard, Ohio, and graduated from Willard High School. She earned a BA degree from Otterbein College, and a Masters degree in nursing from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Dr. J.C. and Frances Steiner; her husband of 54 years, Dr. Walter A. Drury; her grandson, Brenden McGovern; and her sister, Geraldine Whisler.
She is survived by one son, John (Mary Ann) Drury of Huron, Ohio, and four daughters – Rosanna McGovern of Chicago, Illinois; Margaret Drury of Huron, Ohio; Mary Kay (Ed) Kray of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and Jean Drury of Maumee, Ohio. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one nephew, and one niece.
Dorothy had the privilege of attending the medical school graduation of four generations of her family including her father, husband, son, and two grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Willard, Ohio. Her grandparents, Rev. Sanford and Esther Sage, were twice missionaries in Sierra Leone, Africa.
Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was hearing from and being with family and friends, and sharing her homemade cookies.
Visiting hours will be at the Secor Funeral Home, 202 W. Maple St., Willard, Ohio, from 4-7 PM, on Thursday, January 18. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 19, at the First United Methodist Church, 401 E. Howard St., Willard, Ohio, with Rev. Ken Gifford offiaciating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Willard, OH.
If desired, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to a local Hospice, or to the First United Methodist Church of Willard.
