Earl James Tanner, age 82, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 11, 1944 in Ivydale, West Virginia to the late Jink James and Hessie (McCumbers) Tanner.

Earl attended Clay County High School in West Virginia and then attended welding school in Akron, Ohio. He worked at Crown Steel Company in Orrville, Ohio, McNeil Company in Akron, Ohio, Terex Company in Hudson, Ohio, Armstrong Corporation in Bellevue, Ohio and a short time at MTD in Willard.

Earl attended Church of the Master in Steuben, Ohio. He loved his family and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and just being the jokester of the family. He was loved very much and will be missed greatly by his family.

Earl is survived by his loving wife, Nina Fae (Summers) Tanner; two sons, Gregory James Tanner and his wife, Shelly (Gates) and Jerry Dean Tanner (special friend, Valerie Benfer); two grandsons, Cody Brennan Tanner and his wife, Kaylee (Smith) and Jacob Matthew Tanner (special friend, Kim); one great grandson, Colsen James Tanner; brother, Gary Lee Tanner and his wife, Lorra (Messenger); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille (Tanner) Eddy and her husband, James.

Family and friends may visit at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Earl’s funeral service will be held at Church of the Master in Steuben, Ohio on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Caudill officiating. Burial will follow at Greenfield Cemetery in Steuben. Memorial contributions can be made to Church of the Master or Stein Hospice.
