Esther Elizabeth (Schriner) Hiler, age 83, of Chatfield Township beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at home with her husband and loving family by her side.
She was born on August 29, 1926 the second of seven children in Reed Township, Seneca County to the late John & Cecilia (Wirth) Schriner.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kermit Joseph Hiler, whom she wed on October 5, 1946, at the Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Attica, Ohio.
Her children include the late Judy Crist (4 children and 7 grandchildren); Sharon (Elmer) Kuhn (4 children and 4 grandchildren) of Canton, Donna (Keith) Naufzinger (2 children and 5 grandchildren) of Bucyrus, Linda (Terry) Davis (2 children and 1 grandchild) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dennis (Carol) Hiler (3 children and 2 grandchildren) of Bucyrus, Abbie (John) Fuller (3 children) of Mansfield, and Eric (Beth) Hiler (3 children) of Tiro.
Esther Hiler was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy (Hiler) Crist formerly of Marshallville, Ohio who died in 1992; grandchild, Adam Kuhn of Canton, Ohio in 2009; and brother, Alfred Schriner formerly of California;
Surviving brothers and sisters are: Pauline (Dick) Reinbold and Lucille (Mike) Lengyel of Florida, Donald (Ann) Schriner of Willard, Robert (Carol) Schriner of Mansfield, and William (Chris) Schriner of Tiffin, Ohio.
Living all her life near or around New Washington, she was a member of Saint Bernard’s Church in New Washington for 64 years. She was a member of Rosary Altar Society, Loyal Christian Benefit Association, and American Legion Auxiliary for 39 years. Esther spent many hours with the arthritis group at the YMCA of Bucyrus, at times teaching the exercise class.
She was a homemaker, enjoyed making comforters and nativity sets for all her children and grandchildren, sewing and cooking for her family. She loved raising peacocks and turkeys, sharing them with preschool groups.
Her family will have calling hours from 4-7 P.M. on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington. Funeral services on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, with Fr. Tommy Rodrigues officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in New Washington.
