Glenn W. Holmes, age 74, resident of Willard went home to be with his Lord on October 16, 2009. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born on March 28, 1935 in Willard, Ohio to the late Howard and Marjorie (Sparks) Holmes and had been a resident of Willard all of his life. He retired from Gould/Tenneco in Milan, Ohio in 1997 after 40 years of service. He enjoyed yard work, cars, his dog, and especially his grandchildren. Glenn was a devoted fan of Willard High School football and basketball. Until his illness stopped him from attending, he had missed only two home Willard High School basketball games in well over 35 years.
Glenn was a 1954 graduate of Willard High School where he earned varsity letters in baseball, basketball and football. One of his fondest memories was meeting the legendary OSU football coach Woody Hayes in the Buckeye locker room his senior year. He met his wife Shirley when he was 17 and she was 16. They married on February 18, 1956. He was a kind, caring and gentle person who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Shirley (Adams) Holmes, he is survived by daughters Susan (James) Wiles and Shelley Grundish, both of Willard; sons David Holmes of Springfield, OH and Steven (Donna) Holmes of Leesburg, GA; six grandchildren, Whitney, Haley and Landon Wiles, Cody and Matthew Grundish, and Madison Holmes; brothers, Rev. Harold (Nell) Holmes and Larry (Thelma) Holmes and sisters, Wanda Pelchar, Janice Nead, Linda Howell and Glenda Duncan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Loris Gearheart and three brothers, Wendell, Gerald and John Holmes.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Monday, October 19, 2009 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held at the Willard Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Jim Trainer and Elder John Boyd will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven. Friends may send memorial contributions to the Willard High School Athletic Fund or the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church (Great Commission Fund), if they wish. I was saddened to hear about Glenn’s passing. I was glad I got to talk with him at John’s funeral. Glenn was a swell, friendly person with no vices. He was a good neighbor and childhood friend. He always had a smile and I know he will be greatly missed. Although I will not be able to see you personally, my prayers and thoughts are with you.

Shirley
I love you and wish I could be there with you. I’m keeping you in my prayers. It was so good to hear your voice yesterday. I hope you can feel my arms around you. You are on my mind.
You and Glenn have been wonderful brother and sister to me. And that time was way to short.

Love Gwen
