James H. Clady, age 76, longtime resident of New Washington, Ohio passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Arbors of Mifflin Nursing Home in Mansfield, Ohio. One of nine children, Jim was born on November 28, 1948 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Howard and Vera (Heydinger) Clady.
Jim was a 1966 Buckeye Central High School graduate who briefly attended Bluffton College before entering the workforce at Timken. He was working a short time before he was drafted to The United States Army where he proudly served in the 27th Infantry 2nd Battalion Wolfhounds during Vietnam. Following his service, Jim came back to work for Timken, retiring after 35 years as a teacher for the machine shop trade. Retirement did not last long as Jim soon became a part time employee for Sunrise.
The outdoors was where Jim found his most joy, whether it was hunting, fishing, trapping or collecting arrowheads. He looked forward to his big family gatherings that would include a game of euchre or a quick trip to the casino. Most of all, Jim loved and cherished his family. Not only was he active in his children’s sports, he was even more supportive with his grandchildren and attending their games and events.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol (Oberlander) Clady; two children, Jarrod (Bri) Clady and Jackie (Bo) Briones; four grandchildren, Noel and Ronin Briones and Heath and Owen Clady; seven siblings, Daniel (Gail) Clady, David (Karen) Clady, Donna (Steve) King, Richard (Mary Ann) Clady, Douglas (Pam) Clady, Deb (Ken) Krebs and Jane Clady; brother-in-law, Bob Dean; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger (Vicki) Oberlander, Sue Oberlander, Bob (Shelly) Oberlander and Gary (Diana) Oberlander; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Dean; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ellis and Ireta Oberlander; and brother-in-law, John Oberlander.
Family and friends may visit at St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Father Eric Mueller officiating. To the family, friends and fellow soldiers, I am sorry to learn of Jim's passing. Prayers go out to all of you. I know how long and diligently he fought the battles of health. Now these battles are over. We will all miss him and now we will have to remember the good times we had. Jim and I played a lot of baseball together, Little League, Teaner League, Legion and High School, with him being a pitcher and me being the catcher. I had to place a sponge in my catcher's mitt to absorb his pitches because of how hard he threw! We had a lot of conversations through the last handful of years about his health. We also talked about his place in eternity. Jim made the decision to accept the Lord as his Savior, so we can be assured that Jim is now in Heaven. For that we can all be thankful.

He would always make me laugh even as a kid staying at their house. Many people will have great memories of Jim to reminisce during these hard days ahead, and that will help with the sorrow. Cherish the good memories with him. He will be missed. My sincere sympathies to all of you.

We have lost one of the kindest and nicest gentleman one can imagine! I was lucky enough to serve with Jim as member of the 2nd Platoon Bravo company 2/27 Wolfhounds. I remember Jim always kidding me about getting rid of the radio and having me carry it he played the time in country card and loved it. We all are poorer today cause we a lost our brother Jim but all of us are lot richer for having Jim being part of our lives. He had the best smile and attitude about life! Loved that guy! Gerald & Connie Maddock - Oct 20, 2025
Our deepest condolences to Carol and their whole Family, God bless them All. I served with Jim in Vietnam, we had a brotherhood, bonded by blood and steel. After the war, in 1973, we had a mini reunion of a handful of our Wolfhounds at our home in Indiana. Jim slept in one of our beds with Bambi sheets on it, he never complained once. Connie would remind him of it over the years, and he would just grin. Jim was one of the nicest people I have ever known. Rest In Peace, Jim, slow hand salute. NFOE
