After leaving the Marine Corp he joined the Willard Police Department in 1979. He left the PD after 6 years to become Huron County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy. After 3 years he moved to Delaware, Ohio as a Patrol Officer with Delaware PD. After 16 years he retired as a Captain. A year later he became manager of Court Security for Ohio Supreme Court. In 2011 he left the Supreme Court to be the Chief of Police in Milan, Ohio. In 2013 he became Deputy Chief of Perrysburg Police Department. An organization that assists families of fallen officers. Jim was also one of the original members of the Delaware Tactical Unit. A multijurisdictional SWAT TEAM where he was a Team Leader.

This past summer Jim completed his life long quest to ride his motorcycle in all 50 states, with a 3-week trip to Alaska by way of British Columbia to the Alaskan Highway. He also achieved the 1,000-mile iron butt award in 24 hours. His favorite things in life were taking curves on winding roads and spending time with his grandchildren teaching them to shoot, paint, and giving motorcycle rides.

Jim is survived by his wife, Teresa Tuttle Rose of 49 years. His children Eric and Carey Rose and Jennifer and Ryley Fenton. Grandchildren, Kourtney (Adam) Shumaker, Britney (Jacob) Buckmaster, Destiney Rose, Harmony Rose, Asher “AJ” Rose, Aubrey Fenton, Savannah Fenton, Sterling “SJ” Fenton. I was deeply saddened to hear about Jim’s passing. Though I only knew him for a short time, he was someone I respected and truly looked up to. He had a calm confidence and a generous spirit that left a lasting impression on me. I have fond memories of the trip we took together to Key West—riding our motorcycles down through Florida. It was more than just a ride; it was a meaningful experience that I’ll always carry with me. During that time, Jim shared not just his knowledge of riding, but also his perspective, his humor, and a bit of who he was. I learned a lot from him—about motorcycles, yes—but more importantly, about the kind of person I should try to be. Jim made an impact on my life in a way that I can only imagine was even greater for those who were closer to him. And to me, that says everything about the kind of man he was. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
