James M. Thompson, age 88, resident of Rome, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 28, 1930 in Morehead, Kentucky, to the late Charley and Maud (Reeder) Thompson. He had worked in construction and enjoyed farming, gardening, and taking care of his chickens. James was a member of Labor Local 1216 for 32 years and the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Justine (Thompson) Thompson, whom he married in Morehead, Kentucky on January 3, 1952; 2 sons, Johnny (Billie) Thompson, Ronnie (Marcia) Thompson; a daughter in law, Nancy Thompson; 5 grandchildren, Belinda (Joseph) Walker, John (Gina) Thompson, Brittany (Craig) Grimes, Ronnie Thompson, Dustin Thompson; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters, Georgia (Lansford) May, Maxine (Sam) May; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, Mark W. Thompson; a grandson, Mark N. Thompson; and 4 brothers.

Friends may gather at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Hill Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.
