James Robert “Bob” Spicer, passed away peacefully following a sudden illness at Willard Mercy Hospital on Monday, May 24, 2010. Bob had currently resided at Hillside Acres in Willard, Ohio.
Bob was born in 1923 in Towson, Maryland to James and Verda (Lamb) Spicer. He graduated from Towson High School and the University of Maryland in 1944 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation Bob joined the US Navy and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Hawaii and Guam. While in Hawaii, Bob married Helen High of Middletown, PA who was a member of the Civil Service stationed in Honolulu. They retured to Baltimore, Maryland in 1952.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years in 2008; their youngest son, David William Spicer in 1979; and a son-in-law, Ed Schapley in 2007.
Surviving are five children, Roberta (Ed) Taylor of Jackson, WY; Harvey (Susan) Spicer of Fulton, KS; Barbara (Paul) Schnurer of Monroe, VA; Kathy Schapley of Wildersville, TN; and Susan (Steve) Abston of New Haven; ten grandchildren, Jon, Veronica, Amanda, Hannah, Amy, Jessie, Aaron, Travis, Shawn and Renee; seven great grandchildren with another expected in November.
Bob enjoyed 30 plus years employed by the CSX Railroad. He traveled and hiked extensively after retiring, motorcycle riding and investing.
Bob will be remembered for his positive outlook.
His family will celebrate his life at the annual Spicer Reunion in June. No local services will be observed. Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.secorfuneralhomes.com

To all the Spicer family – so sorry to hear of the passing of your father and your mother too. I have great memories of both of them and of the time I spent with Kathy and Susan and your whole family growing up in Garrett. When I drive by 808 Randolph I often think of the Spicers.
