James W. Burkhalter Jr., age 67, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 13, 1957 in Willard, Ohio to the late James W. Burkhalter Sr. and Ella Christine (Oney) Howell. James enjoyed building things, especially cars; was a handy man, liked painting cars and houses, and enjoyed staying busy. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with all of them.
He is survived by his wife, Twila Vassel; children, Tim (Debbie) Burkhalter of Mansfield, Ohio; Wendy (Shawn) Sexton of Wooster, Ohio; Jeremy (Rebecca) Burkhalter of Shelby, Ohio; Melissa Coffman of Richland County; and Austin Burkhalter of Mansfield, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Pamela, Beth, Jeff, Jenny, Debby, Paula, Brian, and Travis; step-father, Birbage “Bill” Howell Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Gary Burkhalter.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Messiah’s House of Prayer on Pettit Street in Shiloh, OH. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of his service at 11:00 AM at Messiah’s House of Prayer with Pastor Bill Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah’s House of Prayer in Shiloh.
