Janis J. Nead, age 92, lifelong resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was born on July 1, 1932 in Willard to the late Howard and Marjorie (Sparks) Holmes.
Janis’s life revolved around her family; she raised all five children and made sure they were always fed and loved. She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family, tending to her garden and playing a good card game. Janis was a Christian woman who loved God and was proud to worship him no matter what church she attended.
In her 50’s, with the help of her daughter, Janis finally got her driver’s license. While she was scared at first, it was a new freedom that allowed her to find joy in going to garage sales and seeing her family outside of her own home. With this accomplishment, she worked for 4 years in housekeeping and also delivered Meals-On-Wheels for a period of time.
Janis is survived by her five children, Norma (Gene) White, Sharon Swick, Robert (Rheam) Nead, Debra Stover and David Joe Nead; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; three siblings, Glenda Duncan, Larry Holmes and Linda Howell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Janis was preceded in death by her husband, Gene R. Nead who passed away on October 6, 2008; two grandchildren, Benny Sweet and Seth Nead; two great grandchildren, Layne Vanderpool and Jackson Baugh; and seven siblings, Glenn Holmes, Loris Gearheart, Wendell Holmes, Gerald Holmes, John Holmes, Wanda Pelchar and Harold Holmes.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard from 12:00 p.m. until the time of her funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Willard. Online condolences can be left for her family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com.
