Margarithe VanderMolen-Anderson, age 97, resident of Sidney, Ohio and former Willard, Ohio resident passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney, Ohio. She was born on April 23, 1913 in Groningen, Netherlands to the late Willem and Antje (Fransens) VanderMolen.-Newmyer
She had lived in Celeryville and later Willard and graduated from New Haven High School in 1931. She then graduated from Ashland College Class of 1938 and earned a Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York. She had done graduate work at the Ohio State University, Wisconsin State Teachers College, Syracuse University, Miami University, Bowling Green State University and State Teachers College of Towson Maryland.
She began her teaching career in a one room rural school in Norwich Township. Over the next seventeen years she held various teaching positions, grades one thru twelve in New Haven, Ashland, Plymouth, and Willard School Districts. She also taught an evening class at Ashland College and worked as a reading consultant for McMillan Publishing Company. Her last teaching assignment was fourteen years at Willard City Schools as a reading consultant and elementary supervisor.
Her memberships include local, state and national education associations, National Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the International Reading Association, B.P.W., Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the former First Presbyterian Church in Willard.
For the past years Margarithe has been a resident of the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney, Ohio.
She is survived by a cousin, Adriana Jane Fransens-Beeching of Shelby, Ohio.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by husband, Don Anderson; and cousins, Owen Fransens, Florence Fransens-Brickley-Sutton, Trenna Fransens-Owens, Alice Fransens-Sizemore and Henrietta Fransens-Leapley.
At Margarithe’s request a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 1:30 PM in the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio with Reverend Linda Kaufman officiating. Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements. www.secorfuneralhomes.com
