Mary Alice Johnson of New Washington passed away March 5, 2006 at Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, New Jersey following a short illness. Born July 20, 1923 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late George William and Anna H. Reinhard. She married Robert H. Johnson, Jr. on November 18, 1945 at Good Hope Lutheran Church, Bucyrus, Ohio who preceeded her in death December 24, 1996.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. ‘Bobby’ III and Joyce Johnson of Powell, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol J. ‘Bella’ and George Rudo of Plainfield, NJ and Marcia E. and John Giordano of Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren, Matthew (Kim Olson) Johnson of Austin, TX, Alicia L. (Todd) Clark of Palmetto, FL, and Christopher, Bradley and Cameron Giordano, all of Birmingham, AL; brother, William (Sandy) Reinhard of Arlington Heights, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1941 and was an active member of the reunion committee of her graduating class. Until her marriage, she was employed by the Crawford County Court System. After moving to New Washington 57 years ago, she operated the Rainbow Baby Chick Hatchery with her parents and husband. A committed member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington, she enjoyed being involved in Womens Circle, Sunday school teacher, bible study group, Altar Guild, and chaperoned many youth trips. She was a honorary member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in South Plainfield, New Jersey and participated in Bible study and sewing groups. Mary was an original founding member of Modern Mothers Club which she shared in for many years. In addition, she was a member of the Americin Legion Auxiliary, Carl A. Geiger Post #405, New Washington, chairmen of the American Red Cross local blood drive for over 25 years, affiliated with Golden Gems Senior Citizens in New Washington and associated with the Crawford County Hospice Support Group.
Friends may call at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 11, 2006 from 1:30 – 2:30 PM. The funeral service will be held at the church at 2:30 PM with Rev. Joseph Bartczak officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Washington.
