Melvin J. “Buck” Shell, age 76, resident of rural New Washington, Ohio passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Elmwood HealthCare Center in Green Springs, Ohio. He was born on February 14, 1939 in Auburn Township, Crawford County, Ohio to the late Albert and Viola (Cramer) Shell. He was a graduate of the New Washington High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from North Central Ohio Technical College. Mr. Shell had been employed with the former Kibler Bros. in New Washington, Quanex Mfg. in Shelby and retired from Crest Bending in New Washington. He was a member of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in North Auburn and enjoyed wood working, fishing and hunting. He had served in the Ohio National Guard in the early 1960’s as an artilleryman.
He is survived by his wife, Judith (McCarthy) Shell whom he married on May 9, 1959; seven children, Deacon Melvin (Cathy) Shell of Fremont, Elizabeth (Paul) Jeffrey of Bucyrus, David (Terese) Shell of Dublin, OH, Cynthia (Timon) Weithman of New Washington, Deacon Timothy (Sandi) Shell of Willowick, OH, Suzanne Shell of Columbus, and Melissa (Alecia) Barrett of Whitehouse, OH; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Alice) Shell of Tiro, and Allison (Susan) Shell of Shelby; two sisters, Carolyn (Terry) Watson of Newark, and Patricia (Custar) Crase of Norwalk; a sister-in-law, Darlene Shell of New Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson, William Anthony Jeffrey; and a brother, Eugene “Nip” Shell.
The family will receive friends at the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in North Auburn, Ohio on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM with Father Eric Culler officiating. Burial will follow in the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Bernard’s Catholic School Tuition Fund.
