Merlin “Doc” Smith, age 93, lifelong resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born in Willard on August 9, 1928 to the late Charles and Gladys (Eastman) Smith.

Doc worked and retired from Borden’s Dairy where he was in charge of deliveries; starting out at people’s homes and moving onto local businesses. After his retirement, he went on to work for All Prints in Mansfield and was also a driver for Sharpnack, a job he really enjoyed. Doc was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard.

A past Mason, Doc was also a social member of the Willard Moose. He loved playing a good game of euchre with family and friends and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Beckel) Mizer-Smith, whom he married on September 9, 1978; 6 children, Brenda (Don) Raver, Gary (Jan) Smith, Steven (Tami) Smith, Charlie (April) Mizer, Cindy Hamburg and John (Judy) Mizer; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Carolyn Smith and Jean Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Smith; and two brothers, Norman Smith and Haldon Smith.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Greenfield Cemetery in Steuben, Ohio with Pastor Janet Wittenmyer officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.secorfuneralhomes.com.
