Monte Hale, age 77, of Willard, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at his home. He was born in Prestonsburg, Kentucky on November 21, 1948, to the late William and Ollie (Webb) Hale.

Monte served in the U.S. Army, had an associate degree in Criminal Justice, and worked at a RICI Correctional Institution in Mansfield, Ohio.  He married the love of his life, Rebecca R. (Luna) Hale on May 23, 1970, and she proceeds him in death.  He was an amazing father, husband, and being a grandfather may have been his favorite achievement, perhaps, next to being a renowned music critic.  He would always offer to teach his loved ones how to play the piano or the guitar, or rummy. He wanted to share everything he could with who he loved, he was selfless.  Unless, of course, you were sitting across from him with a hand of cards.

He is survived by a daughter, Dawne Hale of Willard; son, Jayson (Christy) Hale of Toledo; grandchildren, Kaleb, Sarah and Isabella Houser; Jared, Bryce and Madisen Hale and Lauren, Jack and Matt Hughes; a great grandchild on the way; siblings, Dolly Bistline, Rietta Stumbo, William Hale and George Hale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Lukes Houser.

Per Monte’s request, there will be no funeral services.  A Celebration of Life will be held on February 15, 2026, at the Willard Depot from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM.  Burial will be at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio. I’m truly and deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Uncle Monte. Growing up in Willard, he was a big part of my childhood. I would always look forward to seeing him and Aunt Becky at any family events, met with the warmest hugs. To this day, I can hear him greet me with a Tora-Tora, anytime I would see him. I’m so very happy that my daughter, Isabella, was able to meet him and experience the love I grew up with. Even if it was only a small dose. May he rest in peace and all my love to Dawne, Jason and the rest of the family. We love you guys

Dear Dawne, Jayson & Family, our hearts were saddened to hear of Uncle Monte’s passing. A kind soul gone too soon. 💔 Some of our memories of him was his love of music and his beautiful voice when you could get him to sing. He had a heart of gold and always willing to give you a helping hand if needed. He'll be truly missed. We pray that you hold your memories close as they are now your precious treasures. Sending you love, strength and many prayers. James, Debbie, Brandon, Matthew, & Philip Crisp❤️🙏

Uncle Monte, my mom’s little brother. You meant so much to me. The best uncle anyone could ask for. You were so kind and caring! Always asked me how I am and just so warm and loving. I will miss you so much. My mom’s little brother & dad loved spending time with you and Aunt Becky. Thanks for being such a great man, father, grandfather and husband. What a legacy you’re leaving behind.
