Opal “Granny” Patton, age 91, of Shelby, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 16, 1934 in Knott County, Kentucky to the late Tivous and Laney (Tuttle) Slone. Opal worked at MTD in Willard for 25 years. She loved the Lord and spending time with her family. She was a great cook and known for her homemade biscuits.
She is survived by her children, Roby (Faye) Patton of Shelby, Ohio; Patricia (Scott) Flynn of Crestline, Ohio; Bobby Patton of Willard, Ohio; Donna Daniel of Shelby, Ohio; and Vanessa Montgomery of Willard, Ohio; grandchildren, Ericka Johnson, Roby “Bub” (Crystal) Patton, Jeremy (Callie) Patton, Jessica (Elton) Dean, Michael Hale, Joshua Johnson, Bobby (Shannon) Patton Jr., Craig (Neaka) Hale, Cyndi (Roger) Whetstone, Justin (Heather) Patton, Jenni (Tim) Sexton, Heather (Sean) Stollings, Monica (Ben) Montgomery, Andy (Nicole) Montgomery, Alyssa (Shane) Daniel, Ian (Allison) Daniel, and Matt Montgomery; 30 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; brother, Bartley (Betty) Slone; brother-in-law, Larry Johnson; daughter-in-law, Tammie Patton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sons-in-laws, Robert Daniel and Jamie Montgomery; sisters, Mary, Monnie, Stella, Lydia, and Edna; and brothers, Woodrow, Tivous Jr., Claude, Orbin and Herman.
Visitation will be at Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM – 8:00PM. Her funeral service will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Brother Marty Carty officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Willard, Ohio. Ahh all of you. How lucky were all of you to have a borrowed Angel here for 91 years. What a kind soul that I remember working with at MTD. Sounds like she had other plans this year like spending Christmas with the Lord resting in Peace not here. Sending heartfelt prayers and thoughts to all of you as you go through this time of loss.
