The Service of Remembrance for Mr. Richard B. “Red” Crosby, age 83, of Inverness, Florida, was held 7:30 PM, Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory with Pastor Craig S. Davies officiating. The family received friends from 5:00 PM until the time of service, Sunday at the chapel. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial donations to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464. Interment will be at Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Ohio on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM with military honors presented by the Ashland County Joint Veterans Council. The Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio is incharge of local arrangements. www.secorfuneralhomes.com
Mr. Crosby was born July 29, 1928 in Ashland, OH, son of Luther and Cleo (McCormick) Crosby. He died September 15, 2011 in Inverness, FL. Mr. Crosby was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was employed by Gilberts Funeral Home, Feaster Funeral Home and worked in sales with J.C. Penney for 19 years before retiring. He moved to Clearwater, Florida from Ashland, OH in 1964 and then to Inverness. He enjoyed music, especially classical, jazz and big band, football, and breakfast with friends. Mr. Crosby was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity, the American Legion, and the V.F.W. He was Lutheran by faith and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness.
Mr. Crosby was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Bob Crosby, Ned Crosby and a sister Bonnie Funari. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Crosby of Inverness, son, Dr. Richard Crosby of Richmond, KY, daughter, Jodi (Jim) Billings of Inverness, 2 granddaughters, Jenifer Billings and Jamee Billings, sister-in-law, Ruth Crosby Cross of Ashland, OH, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
