Richard J. “Dick” Farrell, age 64, of Mableton, GA and former New Washington, OH resident passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his home. He was born on July 27, 1950 in Shelby, OH to John C. and Margaret (Keller) Farrell. Richard formerly worked for the Bank of America in Atlanta, GA, was a 1972 graduate from Miami of Ohio with a business degree and was a 1968 graduate of Buckeye Central High School where he played football, basketball and ran track. Richard enjoyed going out to dinner and coming home to visit family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret (Keller) Farrell; sisters Susan (Farrell) McCabe of Springboro, OH and Bonnie (Daniel J.) Obrynba of Mansfield, OH; brother John R. (Melinda) Farrell of Bucyrus, OH; 3 nieces and 5 nephews; and his friend and longtime companion, Mary Lauria.
He is preceded in death by his father, John C. Farrell in 1985.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington, OH on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tom Pairan officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Mrs. Farrell and family, I am so sorry to hear about Dick. My heart goes out to all of you. Growing up in New Washington it always feels like you have lost a member of your own family when someone passes. Small towns are wonderful like that. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
