Robert E. Kessler, age 88, of New Washington, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Bucyrus Community Hospital. He was born June 11, 1925 in New Washington, Ohio to the late Oscar and Iva Marie (Vorndran) Kessler. He retired from Timken after 30 plus years and was also a self employed painter. He was a member of the St. Bernard Cathiolic Church in New Washington and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 63 year member of the American Legion in New Washington, Post #405 and a charter member of the New Washington VFW. Bob was an avid gardener, and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and making wine. He was an Army Veteran of WW II.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine (Swartzmiller) Kessler, whom he married January 28, 1947; 4 children, Joe (Bobbie) Kessler of Graham, Washington, Linda Kessler of Bucyrus, Bernard (Nancy) Kessler of New Washington and Tom Kessler of New Washington; 2 grandsons, Justin and Gabe Kessler; 1 great granddaughter, Addie Kessler; 2 sisters, Jean (Mel) Evenden of Troy and Yvonne Ramage of Bucyrus; nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Iva Kessler; 2 daughters-in-law, Pam Adams Kessler and Shelley Burge Kessler; 2 sisters, Rebecca Nitz and Loraine “Ike” Thacker.
Visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2013 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington. The funeral mass will be Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington. Burial will be at a later date at the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in New Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairway School in Bucyrus or to the donor’s choice. So sorry for all of you…..Bob was a man we always respected for his wit and empathy for the other person……I never met anyone like him and somehow dont think I ever will…..He devoted his life to his family and somehow I know that he will always be there for all of you……you have many many good memories and hope they give you solace in the days ahead…….Dick and Lorna Ackerman and family
