Roberta Hazel (Earl) Gray

Roberta Hazel (Earl) Gray passed away peacefully October 27, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born March 7, 1935 to Robert and Hazel(Marrett) Earl. Roberta was born on the family farm in North Fairfield, Ohio. She was a graduate of the New London High School Class of 1953.  Roberta also graduated from Ashland College with a degree in education and taught in the New London School systems. Her salary was a whopping $3,200.00 per year. Following her years as a teacher, Roberta worked the family farm.

Roberta married her high school sweetheart Robert A. Gray in 1955. Together they raised their 3 children on the family farm (Grayland Farms) and have passed that legacy to their children. Roberta took great pride in the appearance of her home and could always be found outside working in her yard and gardens. Roberta was an active member of the Fitchville United Methodist Church. She was also a former Girl Scout advisor and a long-time 4-H advisor.  Roberta’s greatest passion was her grandchildren. Attending their many activities and sporting events supplying her famous ‘monster cookies’ for all to enjoy.

Roberta is survived by her husband Robert, sons Steve (Shirley) Gray and Kevin (Kelly) Gray both of North Fairfield, and daughter Kathy (Bob) Day of Castalia. Sisters Edna Smith, Elsie Righter, Betty Schreck, and Irene (Joe) Merrilees, Brother Bobby (Judy) Earl. She is also survived by grandchildren Katrina(Heath) Hamilton, Kristi Day, Kari(Isaac) Bernard, Kelsey(Artie) Maines, Bobby (Melissa) Day, Tony (Dana) Day, Eric (Ashley) Gray, Spencer (Chelsea) Gray, Chandler, Parker, and Keragin Gray. Roberta is also survived by 13 Great Grandchildren and another to arrive in the very near future, along with multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by brother-in-laws Lyle Smith, Rod Righter and Larry Schreck.

Those wishing to contribute to Roberta’s memory may do so to Fitchville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Per Roberta’s wishes, cremation will take place. A private Celebration of Life will be held at the Fitchville United Methodist Church on Sunday November 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Secor Funeral Home of Willard is assisting with the arrangements.

Roberta was a classmate of mine there in Fitchville then on to New London where she and I met Bob Gray. I became good friends with Bob as she did only more so in fact but you all know how that went. I dearly love the both of them. Rest in peace lovely lady.
