Ruth M. (Kehres) Rice, age 88, died on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at The Willows at Willard, peacefully surrounded by family. She was born the eldest of twelve children to Isadore and Eleanor Kehres on September 8, 1928 in Huron County and lived all her life in the North Auburn and Willard area. She retired from Pioneer Balloons as a laboratory technician after thirty-five years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard where she was active as a volunteer delivering communion to those at home and at hospitals. She also participated in the church choir and the prayer line. Ruth was known to readily volunteer to transport anyone to and from medical appointments, grocery shopping or wherever the need. She was a volunteer for the Mercy Willard Hospital for over forty years and was a certified organ donation transport volunteer.
Surviving are her children, daughter, Jean Walker of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Kim Rice of Huron, Ohio, Michael and Cindy Rice of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Ed and Pam Rice of Willard; eight grandchildren, Kristina Mauser, Lori Rice, Jeff Walker, Amie Hobson, Karis Thiel, Mark Rice, Maureen Esterline, and Jonathan Rice; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Alt of Willard, Louise Roth of Willard, Kathleen Leber of Monroeville, Marilyn Kraft of Willard; and a brother, William Kehres of Shelby.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Herman Rice (2006); son, John Rice; her sister, Joan Ehresman; and brothers, Leonard Kehres, Charles Kehres, Victor Kehres, James Kehres, and Roman Kehres.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Noon at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, where there will be a memorial service on Saturday at 12:00 PM. With Father Frank Kehres officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard or to Stein Hospice in Sandusky. Our deepest condolences to the Rice family on the passing of Ruth Rice. She was an amazing woman with the spirit of a Saint. We spent many summer days going to visit her at Holiday Lakes when Nick, Jarrod, and Heather West were young. She was the highlight of the summer as we played pin ball, went swimming, and then ate pizza with her. She always seemed genuinely happy to see us and was kind, fun, and lovable. Not one of us left without our hug from her. We will keep her in our hearts forever. She was a bit of Heaven here on Earth.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies. My heart goes out to the family. Death is something we will never get use to. In fact, God’s Word refers to death as an enemy (1 Corinthians 15:26). It is comforting to know that very soon our loving Heavenly Father, Jehovah, will remove death once and for all and give us the opportunity to see our loved ones again here on the earth.
Sending our deepest sympathy to the Rice family. Ruth was a very special lady, an angel here on Earth. She gave of herself to others, always more concerned about what was going on in everyone else’s lives than her own. We are confident she is standing next to Jesus.
I knew Ruth and Herman for many years at Richmond and always admired the respect and caring attitude that she exhibited. She was a positive influence in the world.
