Ruth (High) Van Orsdall, age 95, of Boundary Road, New Washington, passed away Wed., March 31, 2004 at the Bucyrus Community Hospital. She was born Aug. 31, 1908 in New Washington, where she lived all of her life. She graduated from New Washington High School in 1925 and from Capital University in 1929. She taught for 23 years, where she taught at Holmes Liberty, Lykens High School, New Washington School and Buckeye East. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington. She was a big sports fan, liked to do crossword puzzles, gardening, crocheting and loved her cats. At the age of 94, she was inducted into the Capital University Alumni Varsity “C” Association.
She is survived by a son, Gene Van Orsdall of Bellevue; daughter, Barbara Van Orsdall of Strongsville; granddaughter, Beth Van Orsdall of Tucson, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceeded in death by her husband, George Arthur Van Orsdall, who she married 7-26-34 and who died in 1980; Grandson, Steven Van Orsdall; parents, Adam & Caroline High; 7 brothers, Laurie, John, Russell, Ferdinand, Milton, Chester and Herbert High.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington. The Funeral Service will be Monday at 10:00 A.M. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington, with Rev.Joseph Bartczak officiating. Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Washington. Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Chruch Stained Glass Fund, 203 East Mansfield St., New Washington, OH 44854 or to the Buckeye Central School Endowment Fund, 306 South Kibler St., New Washington, OH 44854.
