Thurman W. “Terry” Garrett, “The Gentle Giant” age 61, of Shelby, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, October 23, 2016. He was born April 29, 1955 in Willard, Ohio to the late Wade and Rebecca (Keller) Garrett. He retired from MTD in Willard in 2011 and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Mansfield, Ohio. Terry had attended the Plymouth High School, was a member of the Plymouth American Legion, enjoyed motorcycle riding but most of all, loved to spoil his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria “Ann” (Golden) Garrett, whom he married July 6, 1979; 3 children, Andrew Ward (Brittany Gee) of Lexington, OH, Tamra Hale of Baytown, Texas and Terry (Meagan) Garrett of Shelby, OH; 10 grandchildren, Blake (Kaila), Andy (Brii), Lexi, Noah, Emelie, Maddi, Grace, Gavin, Myah, and Gillian; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, James Garrett of Plymouth, OH, and Steven Garrett of Rayford, FL; sister, Judith Hull of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews; best friends, Eugene and Penny Drake; and Dennis Meade; and one special dog, Suzy Q.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Rebecca Garrett and a sister Patricia Peavey.
Visitation will be Friday, October 28, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio where the funeral service will be Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with his son, Pastor Terry Garrett officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Sending prayers to Terry’s family. I worked with him at MTD. He helped me overcome my doubts of being able to do my job and was the main reason I was able to go to work everyday cause I knew he’d talk me thru it.What an amazing, kind man, he will truly be missed.
