Wayne H. Strine, age 89, of Maple St., Plymouth, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at the Heritage Care Center in Shelby following a short illness. He was born Nov. 30, 1914 in Ashland, OH and has lived in Plymouth the last 47 years.He started teaching in a one room schoolhouse called the “Old Sixteen”. He graduated from Ashland College and Kent State with a Master’s Degree in Education. He was a teacher and principal at all of the Plymouth and Shiloh Schools. He coached at the Sullivan and North Robinson Schools;He was a Boy Scout of America, Troop 4411 in Shelby; chairman of the Village Park Board; citizen of the year in 1992 in Plymouth; chairman of the Plymouth-Shiloh Salvation Army Unit; charter member of the Plymouth Lions Club; member of the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth, where he was a Elder and Deacon; member of the Chamber of Commerce; chairperson for the Red Cross Blood Donor’s in Plymouth; member of the 55-Plus Club; trustee of the Plymouth Area Historical Society; taught and called square dances; he played in the Strine Orchestra; Superintendent of the Ashland County Childrens Home; member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc. in Richland Co.; member of the Order of Eastern Stars; former Master of Masons Loge # 201; member of Baku in Mansfield; Grand Council of Royal & Select Masons of OH; Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of OH, Asland Chapter 67; Lodge Council Chapter Consistory of Valley of Toledo; Firelands Scottish Rite Assoc. of Valley of Toledo; Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of OH in Shelby. He was a WW II Navy Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Agatha (Althouse) Strine, who he married Sept. 1, 1938; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne E. “Jim” & Jane Strine of Plymouth, William E. & Chris Strine of Ashland and Earl T. & Vicki Strine of Spartanburg, S.C.; grandson, Jon A. Strine of Spokane, Washington; daughter and son-in-law, Marlene & Michael Evans of Fairfield, OH; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters and brother-in-laws, Glorine & Ross Cody of Ashland and Portia Ann & James Reynolds of Fairview Park, OH; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Gaylord & Pat Strine and Carl & Gloria Strine, both of Ashland; 3 sisters-in-law, Bessie Strine, Hallie Strine and Portia Strine, all of Ashland.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, Wayne C. “Pop” & Bessie Oeta (Sheppard) Strine; 4 brothers, Rev. Miles, Harold, Warren and Robert Strine; an infant brother, Earl Strine.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 Noon till 3:00 P.M. and from 5-8 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, where the Funeral service will be Wed. at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Linda Heinaman officiating. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth, the Plymouth Historical Society or to the Plymouth-Shiloh Athletic Boosters Club for the construction of the field house.
