Ella Mae Kaple (Snipes), 69, of New Washington, passed away at home on October 27, 2026.
Born March 26, 1957, to James Leo and Dorothy (Grizzle) Snipes, Ella graduated from Plymouth High School in 1975 and received her nursing diploma from Mansfield General School of Nursing in 1978. She proudly served as a Registered Nurse throughout her career, with a deep passion for providing mental health care to patients across Richland, Seneca, Erie, Ottawa, Huron, and Wood Counties.
Ella found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life. She loved summers spent at Lac Seul, Ontario, fishing, gardening, and taking care of chickens. She was happiest watching her children’s and grandchildren’s sports, band performances, and academic achievements. She also enjoyed making wreaths and flower arrangements, reading, and listening to rock music. Those who knew her well will smile at the memory of her frequently boasting about her time management skills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Leo and Dorothy Snipes; her brothers Paul, Terry, and Tim; her maternal grandparents Elbert and Mallie (Hughes) Grizzle; her paternal grandparents Cecil and Mae (Caudill) Snipes; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Robert Kaple Sr. and Anna (Nedolast) Kaple; her brother-in-law Robert Kaple Jr.; her grandchildren Robbie and Eden Crapo; and special family member Rose Nedolast.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Kaple; her son Joe Kaple and daughter-in-law Jenny Kaple (Collins); her daughter Erika Crapo (Kaple) and son-in-law Coty Crapo; her grandchildren Jace Kaple, Jenelle Kaple, Carson Rader, Lucas Rader, and Colten Crapo; her sisters Trena (Brad) Butcher and Corinna (Mike) Dunaway; and her beloved pets Otis and Rosey.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, November 1, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Secor Funeral Home in New Washington, Ohio. A funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Secor Funeral Home in New Washington, Ohio with Fr. Ron Schock officiating and a nursing honor guard service to follow. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences can be made to Ella’s family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com

I am so sorry to hear of Ella's passing. I had the pleasure of working with her through the majority of my Behavioral Health career. She was such an amazing soul and so compassionate. I don't think she ever got mad or allowed any crisis situation to rattle her. She always seemed to stay composed. May God bless her and welcome her home with open arms. My prayers are with you and your family. Ella has definitely earned her wings...fly high beautiful soul 🙏

Erika, prayers for you and your family. Your mom was a light to many including me. We attended Plymouth High School together graduating in 1975. We rode the band bus back from many a long night sitting together talking about everything, we also sat together and watched the football games. We ate lunch and had some classes together and she always laughed in Ella’s way. I will have beautiful memories always stored in my heart…my friend. Thank you Ella for sharing your beautiful soul. I was lucky and blessed to have you as a friend.
