Herman Rice, age 83, of South Main Street, Willard, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006 at the St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, from injuries related to a recent auto accident. He was born Nov. 13, 1922 in Richmond Township, OH and has lived all of his life in the Willard area. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from the Willard City Schools in 1979. He was an Army veteran in W.W. II and was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Rohna Survivors Memorial Assoc. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Willard Firelands 2153, Willard VFW Post 3430, the Willard American Legion Post 514 and Chaplain of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Kehres) Rice, whom he married April 26, 1947; daughter, Jean Walker of Fort Wayne, IN; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Larry & Kim Rice of Willard, Michael & Cindy Rice of Harrisburg, PA and Edward & Pam Rice of Willard; 8 grandchildren, Tina Rice, Lori Rice, Jeff Walker, Amie Rice, Karis Rice, Mark Rice, Maureen Rice and Johnathan Rice; 2 great grandchildren, Dylan Walker and Ryan Rice; sister, Bertha Winemiller of Kentucky and a brother, Bernard Rice of Monroeville.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna (Hahler) Rice; son, John Rice; infant brother, Ernest Rice.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 A.M.to 12:00 Noon at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard where there will be a Memorial Service, Thursday at 12:00 Noon, with Fr. Stanley S. Szybka officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Francis Church.
