Bertha C. Kanney, age 90, resident of rural New Washington, Ohio passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 21, 1925 in New Washington, Ohio to the late Frank and Theresa (Wurm) Shell. Bertha was a graduate of New Washington High School and enjoyed planting and gardening.
She is survived by seven children, Gene (Vicki) Kanney of Bucyrus, Bernard (Kelly) Kanney of New Washington, Joseph (Kay Dietrich) Kanney of Rockville, MD, Allen Kanney of New Washington, Harry Kanney of Bucyrus, Margie (Ben) Hines of New Washington, Susan (Ken) Prince of Bucyrus, 12 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Shell of New Washington; and a sister, Anna Ruffing of Bellevue.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Albert F. Kanney in 1994; a daughter, Ruth Kanney; and three brothers, Richard, John and Joe Shell.
Visitation will be held at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington, Ohio on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Eric Culler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in New Washington. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church or Home Care Matters Hospice.
