Billy Joe Deskins, age 66, resident of Shelby, Ohio and former Indiana resident passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at his home following a short illness. He was born on December 31, 1947 in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late Wayne and Mona (Sparkman) Deskins. Mr. Deskins served his country for 23 years in the US Navy and retired in 1990 as Master Chief Petty Officer.
He is survived by a daughter, Dana (Rick) Lopez of Mesa, AZ; a granddaughter, Stephani (Kasey) Martin of Gilbert, AZ; a grandson, Matthew Lopez of Mesa, AZ: two great granddaughters; Jacy and Addison; two sisters, Debbie Hammer of Shelby; and Darlene Stewart (Bob Stockmaster) of Willard, OH; four brothers, James Deskins of Louisville, KY; Charles (Patty) Deskins of Shelby; Paul Deskins of Indiana: and Kenny Deskins of Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews and his dog, Buster.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Joan F. Deskins; a son, Corey Lee Mark Deskins; and two brothers, Mike and Don Deskins.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Deacon Fred Stockmaster officiating. Military honors will be presented by the US Navy and the Willard American Legion. Burial will follow at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
