Eugene L. Sherwood, age 76, resident of Willard, Ohio, passed away at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on July 7, 2014. He was born on September 7, 1937 in Denton, Texas to the late Buford and Elsie (Hanks) Sherwood. Eugene retired after 20 years from the U.S. Air Force then went to work for the U.S. postal service and retired from there after 22 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was the patriarch of his family and they always came first. He enjoyed playing cards every Friday night with his Carol & Red Eastman.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Marie (Cannaday) Sherwood, whom he married December 20, 1962; two sons, Eugene Scott (Colette) Sherwood of Iowa and Steven Lindy Sherwood of Ontario, OH; four grandchildren, Brenton, Megan, Jillian, and Wills; one great grandson, Brett; one sister, Sheila Kay (Dr. Alan) Nichols of Columbus, and cousin, Newton Hightower of Houston, Texas.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
There will be a private service and burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio at a later date. The Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the family at secorfuneralhomes.com
