Charles H. Riedlinger, age 67, of New Haven, OH, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at the MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 16, 1939 in Upper Sandusky, OH and lived in Carey, OH until the age of 17. His family moved to the Willard area to farm in 1956. He was in the Army Reserves. He worked at R.R. Donnelley in Willard for 42 years, retiring in April of 2000. He owned and operated The Garden Market in New Haven. He was very passionate about the vegetable farming business. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard.
He had many friends among the nearby mennonite community that he respected and valued deeply. In addition, he enjoyed attending Blooming Grove Produce auction several times a week during the produce season.
He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed vegetable farming, traveling, cutting wood, fishing, and spending time with his family. Also, he felt the need and importance of giving advice and guidance to his family members.
Throughout his life, his family whom he cherished, were the most importance. His wife Shirley (Cole) Riedlinger, his soul mate, whom he loved dearly and married Aug. 26, 1961. He was extremely proud of his children, Cindy & Mike Metcalfe of Willard, David & Theresa Riedlinger of Plymouth; grandchildren, Nicole and Stephanie Riedlinger and Bradley and Carissa Metcalfe. He also loved his family members, brothers, Bob (Betty) Riedlinger of Plymouth, Bill (Sue) Riedlinger of Attica and Tom (Mary) Riedlinger of Plymouth; sisters, Dorothy (Bob) Boyer of Plymouth and Anita (John) Hollinger of Tiro; mother-in-law, Ruby Cole of New Haven; brother-in-law, Tom (Sandy) Cole of Shiloh and sisters-in-law, Kathy (Ray) Slessman of Willard and Betty Cole of Crestline; and many nieces and nephews;
He was preceeded in death by a granddaughter, Brianna Metcalfe; parents, Ray & Waunita Riedlinger; two infant sisters; brothers-in-law, Mike, Jim and Bob Cole; and father-in-law, Robert Cole Sr.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, where there will be a prayer service at 7:45 P.M.. The funeral mass will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, with Fr. Stanley S. Szybka officiating. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. www.secorfuneralhome.com
