Donel Dean Gibson, age 87, resident of Elyria, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was born on October 4, 1932 in Hueysville, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Annie (Martin) Gibson and had been a New Haven resident before moving to Elyria. He was a member of the Pleasant View Church of Old Regular Baptist in Litchfield, Ohio and had been an ordained minister for 44 years. He retired from Plymouth Locomotive and was an US Army Veteran who served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Slone Gibson; one daughter, Brenda & Junior Ruggles of Ironton; five sons, Gerald & Val Gibson of Willard, Claude & Sonja Gibson of Willard, Joseph & Sandy Gibson of Willard, Mark & Lenora Gibson of Willard and Donel & Diana Gibson II of Norwalk; stepchildren, Belinda Elliott of Elyria and Doug Slone of New Port Richey, FL; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Wanda Hale of Alabama, Janet & William Barnett of Fort Worth, Texas and Elnora & Russell Patton of Perrysburg, OH; one brother, Thomas J. & Laurie Gibson of Mobile, AL; sister-in-law, Shelby Gibson and brother-in-law Doug Summers.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Gwendale (Vanderpool) Gibson in 2001; his parents, Thomas and Annie (Martin) Gibson; three sisters, Dorsey Summers, Betty Rowe and Anna Montgomery; one brother, Merland Gibson and three brothers-in-law, James Hale, Claude Rowe and Ben Montgomery.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 22, 2019 starting at 2:00 PM with a service at 6:00 PM at the Little Rebecca Church of Old Regular Baptist, 4982 Henry Road, Plymouth, Ohio 44865. The funeral service will be Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Little Rebecca Church of Old Regular Baptist in Plymouth. The burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Ames Family Hospice House, 30080 Hospice Way, Westlake, Ohio 44145.
