Dorothy (nee Ross) Kaple passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at her home in New Washington surrounded by her family. Dorothy was the beloved wife of Donald for 56 years, married on August 7, 1948. Don preceded her in death on October 31, 2004. Dorothy was born in Lykens, Ohio on February 22, 1928 to the late George and Grace (Kibler) Ross.
There was nothing that gave Dorothy more joy than her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Raising twelve children was never easy, but Dorothy, along with Don, taught their children to be caring, responsible, and respectful. Dorothy had a wonderful sense of humor along with a strong faith, which gave her the strength she needed to raise a large family. Everyone enjoyed Dorothy's laugh and sense of humor. Playing the piano and organ was a favorite pasttime, especially playing at the St. Bernard’s minstrel years ago. She enjoyed flowers, reading, browsing through cookbooks and putting together jigsaw puzzles with family, friends and especially with her grandchildren.
Cherished mother of twelve children, Diane (John) Hunziker of Cleveland, Tim (Yvonne) Kaple of Dublin, Steve (Mary) Kaple of Clyde, Sharon Kaple of Bucyrus, Jule (Frank) Kaple of New Washington, Keith Kaple of New Washington, Mary (Doug) Kehres of Van Wert, Randy (Lori) Kaple of Bucyrus, Neal Kaple of Port Orange, FL, Kenny Kaple of New Washington, Todd (Melissa) Kaple Shelby; and 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren
Also surviving are loving sisters, Donna Jones and Margaret Sand. Dorothy is also survived by many caring nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband Don, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Michael Kaple, who died on June 4, 2021; granddaughters, Leah Kaple and Morgan Kelley; brothers-in-law, Bud, John, Vin, James, Fr. Timon Kaple, John Sand and Dick Jones; sisters-in-law, Martina Shakelford, Dolores Uhl, Joan Ervin, Frances Kaple, Doris Kaple and Patricia Wechter.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM . A celebration of Dorothy's life will take place with a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington with Fr. George Mahas officiating. Private interment will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to be made to St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
