Eugene R. Forster, age 83, resident of Willard, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at the home of daughter Patricia (James) Butler in Toledo, Ohio after a lengthy illness. He was born August 10, 1923 in Willard and graduated from North Fairfield (OH) High School in 1941. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific on the USS St. George. After the war he worked at the Pontiac/Buick dealership in Willard as an auto mechanic until 1974 when he became an instructor at Pioneer Career Center in Shelby OH. He retired in 1985. He was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, and he belonged to the Willard Knights of Columbus and the VFW Norwalk Post #2743. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, camping, watching sports and wintering in Florida for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha (Wechter), whom he married in 1947; 5 daughters, Jean Forster of St Paul MN, Donna (Kenneth) Hay of Willard, Patricia (James) Butler of Toledo, Mary (William) Roberts of Groton NY, Marjorie (Thomas) Cox of Manchester CT; 3 sons, Thomas (Linda) of Bloomfield NY, Kenneth of Cornelius NC, Charles (Joan Jacobs) of Yakima WA; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert (Kathryn) of North Auburn OH, Rev. Francis Forster, O.S.B. of Belmont Abbey NC; one sister, Mary Ann Forster of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents Philip F. and Frances A. (Leitz), a brother, Bernard (Ann) and a sister, Agnes Forster.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Monday, December 11, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where the Rosary will be recited at 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 W. Perry St., Willard, with Father Stanley S. Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard, Ohio.
The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of NW Ohio (800 S. Detroit Ave, Toledo, 43609) or St. Francis Xavier Church (25 W. Perry St., Willard, 44890).
