Helen Irene (Burky) Strohm, age 88, resident of New Washington, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Bucyrus, Ohio. She was born on December 6, 1918 in Seneca County, Ohio to the late John and Laurinda (Knierieman) Burky and had been a resident of New Washington most of her life. She was a 1936 graduate of New Washington High School and a retired sewing supervisor for C.E. White Company. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. Helen enjoyed her family, sewing, crafts and gardening. She was an avid bird watcher and will be most remembered by her grandchildren for her fabulous cookies.
She is survived by her husband, John E. Strohm, whom she wed June 7, 1941; two daughters, Irene (Joe) Springer-Trybalski of Valrico, FL; and Shirley (Bill) Frazee of New Washington; one son, Ed (Sue) Strohm of New Washington; 8 grandchildren, Marty Springer, Dan Springer, Teri Locke, Missy Aspiras, Lori Ehresman, Steve Frazee, Lindy Strohm, and Ryan Strohm; 12 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters; and 5 brothers.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington with Pastor Joseph Bartczak officiating. Calling will be at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Monday. Burial will follow at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Food Pantry.
