Eurmlee “Ernie” Collins, age 86, resident of Marion, Ohio, formerly of Plymouth, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living in Marion. He was born on December 4, 1931 in Minnie, Kentucky to the late Siefas and Artie (Tuttle) Collins. He had worked for B & O/Chessie System Railroad at the Willard yard as a car inspector for 42 years. Ernie was a proud U.S. Marine veteran having served on the U.S.S. Newport News during the Korean Conflict. He attended Little Ruth Old Regular Baptist Church in Marengo and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, camping, and spending the winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Ellaree (Vanderpool) Collins whom he wed on November 22, 1950; two sons, Randy (Susan) Collins of Scottsdale, AZ, and Rick (Rhonda) Collins of Edison, OH; two granddaughters, Kelli Collins of Charleston, SC, and Ashley (Bryce) Volk of Marion, OH; and a sister, Verda Shepherd of Willard.
In additon to his parents, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Joy Lynn Collins; and five siblings, Virgie King, Irene Storie, Hazel Pullum, Roy and Bill Collins.
Visitation will be held at the Little Rebecca Old Regular Baptist Church in Plymouth, Ohio on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be at the church on Thursday 10:00 AM with Elder Ray Vanderpool officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth with military honors. Sorry I am not able to make the services. I had surgery on my eye and am unable to do much. My condolences to the family.
I worked with Eurmlee at Border’s Meat Market in Plymouth MANY years ago. He was very much a gentleman and so very proud of his family. My thoughts are with you.
