Evelyn B. Lydy, age 70, formerly of Willard, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio. She was born on March 3, 1944 in Warren, Ohio and has live in Napoleon, Ohio for the last 3 years. She graduated from Willard High School in 1962, and had worked at the Pioneer Rubber Company and then the Willard Medical Center both in Willard, Ohio. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Service Unit Director and a volunteer treasurer for the Salvation Army, both in Willard. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Willard where she played the handbells before joining the Christ United Methodist Church in Napoleon, where she was a member of the Church Chicks and where her pastor knew her for making the best pies.
She is survived by her husband, Alan J. Lydy, whom she married on December 19, 1975; son, Chad (Jennifer) Lydy of Grelton, OH; 2 daughters, Lori (Tommy) Barnett of Willard and Angela (Bryan) Shirey of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Curt and Nathan Lydy of Grelton, Brady and Casey Barnett of Willard and Natalie and Lydia Shirey of Springfield; step-brother, Richard Newland; and her beloved cat, “Gabi”, which in Hebrew means “God is my strength”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert Grinnell and Velera (Jim) Newland and a son, Kenneth Curtis Schlayer.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Willard, Ohio, where the funeral service will be Saturday at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor Mary Kay officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Willard, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church in Napoleon.
