Haldon C. Smith, age 74, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in the Willard Mercy Hospital. He was born on December 28, 1934 in North Fairfield, Ohio to the late Charles and Gladys (Eastman) Smith and had been a North Fairfield resident the majority of his life, moving to Willard twelve years ago. He was a 1952 graduate of North Fairfield High School and a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Smith was a farmer and also drove truck for several of the area trucking firms. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard and the North Fairfield American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Clark) Smith, whom he married on January 12, 1959; a daughter, Sherri Rodriguez of Willard; and a son, Greg Smith of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Josh (Brandy) Rodriguez of Willard; Jared (Mindy) Rodriguez of Willard; and Jessica (Eric) Trukovich of Ashland; seven great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; two brothers, Norman (Carolyn) Smith of Willard; and Merlin “Doc” (Virginia) Smith of Willard; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Thursday, January 8, 2009 from Noon to 1:00 PM where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Reverend Brian Peltomaa officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Township Cemetery in Steuben, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association.
