Howard Russell Zerkle, age 86, resident of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland. He was born on July 11, 1933 in Waterloo, Indiana, to the late Guy and Mildred (Zell) Zerkle. He proudly served in the U.S Army. Howard was self-employed as a watch and clock repairman and he attended The Chapel in Sandusky, where he sang in the choir. Howard enjoyed watching sports, mainly college basketball, cross country camping trips with his family, and using the word "fantastic", which was one of his favorite words.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Marcia West of Willard, Diane Daniel of Willard, and Stewart (Judy) Zerkle of Republic; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Samantha) Albright, Stephanie Arnold, Jason (Tina) Wilson, Lindsay (Gibson) Mies and Blake Wilson; 3 step-grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Marjorie Black, Maxine Meyer and Keith (Connie) Zerkle.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Helen Zerkle; grandson, Joshua West; three sons-in-law, Tim Daniel, Dennis Wilson and Robert West; siblings, Robert Zerkle, Gerald Zerkle and Jean Gonzales and one great grandson.
Family and friends may gather at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Monday, August 19, 2019, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, where the funeral will take place at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jay Halley officiating.
