John Anthony Varos, Jr. age 47, passed on peacefully in his sleep at HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction Colorado, on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 surrounded by his family.
John was born April 6, 1967 in Willard, Ohio to John and Claudia (Bucher) Varos. He graduated from Willard High School in 1985 and John earned a Communication Degree in 1989 from Ohio University. In 1992 he received his Juris Doctorate in Environmental Law from the University of Toledo Law School then went on to being a part of building the new Cleveland Browns Stadium, Federal Court House, Turnpike restorations and many other constructions in the Cleveland Area.
John married Linda (Marlette) Varos on December 15, 2001 at Holy Trinity Church in Avon and in 2005 they moved to Colorado. John was employed by several School Districts in Colorado. He enjoyed being a substitute teacher and liaison in the schools, where he was able to work with a variety of students. He especially enjoyed becoming a “Big Brother” to many of the troubled students. John was highly regarded and liked in the districts for his work and dedication.
John was an avid sports fan buff, his passion was cooking, and he loved his dogs. He loved to watch The Ohio State Buckeyes, Indians and Browns. Winning or losing, they were his teams and John never gave up on them. He was proud of his Hungarian heritage and cooked for his work companions at school and friends when he came back to Ohio for visits. His Cocker Spaniel puppies brought joy and happiness to his life.
John is survived by his wife, Linda (Marlette) Varos of Grand Junction, Colorado; his parents, John and Claudia Varos of Norwalk, Ohio; his sisters, Theresa Varos of Chickamauga, GA and Suzanne (Jeffrey) Yorkey of Ida, Michigan; Nephews and Nieces, Nicolas and Isabelle Rousseau, Alexandra, Brett and Jake Yorkey; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Many Faithful Friends, along with his faithful, loving Cocker Spaniels, Kosmik Kow and Buta Kutya Stout.
His grandparents John and Helen Varos and William and Agnes Bucher predeceased him along with his beloved Cocker Spaniels, Keoke Coffee, Guinness & Bass, and Milk & Cookies.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Rd. in Avon, Ohio, on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 10am, with the Rev Fr. John Misenko presiding. Following the service, the family will receive friends and relatives dressed in their Buckeye, Browns, or Indians gear to honor the love John had for these teams at The Faith Lutheran Church, 2265 Garden Drive in Avon where lunch and stories will be shared. Interment will be private. Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Key Bank for the John A. Varos, Jr. Culinary Arts Scholarship Fund. A passion he so loved and wanted to do.
